MGCCC baseball splits at Jones

JACKSON---It was a wild night at Smith-Wills Stadium as Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and Jones split an MACJC South Division doubleheader Mar. 30. Gulf Coast took game one 2-0 but dropped the nightcap 6-5 as the Bobcats got an RBI double to win the game in the bottom of the 12th. The Bobcats also tied the game at 4-4 in the 7th when Nick Ray belted a Grand Slam homer. Gulf Coast (17-8, 5-5) took the lead in the top of the 12th on a solo homer by Patrick Kirkland, his 5th of the season. Jeremy Hill had three singles for Gulf Coast while Derek Davis and Kirkland each homered and singled. Corey Groue had two hits while Will White, Zack DeSoto, Brandon Cavatio, Nick Purdy and Jay Bell each singled.

The Bulldogs won game one 2-0 as Sean Kennel (5-3) threw a four-hitter along with five strikeouts. Jeremy Hill had three hits including a solo home run, his team-leading 6th of the season. The games were played at Smith-Wills Stadium in Jackson due to construction being done on the Jones Campus in Ellisville.

Gulf Coast travels to Itawamba Apr. 2 in a non-division doubleheader before heading to Hinds Apr. 7.
