PERKINSTON---In a non-MACJC tune-up doubleheader against No. 1 ranked LSU-Eunice, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College cranked out three grand slams in a 7-6, 11-1 sweep of the NJCAA’S top-ranked team.

The Bulldogs (27-14) were down 6-2 in the bottom of the sixth in game one when the offense struck for five runs…four coming on a Zach Desoto grand slam. Jeremy Hill had three hits in the victory while Ty Lain had two. Michael Baxter got the win in relief.

In the game two nightcap, Ross Weathers and Kris Rouse both hit grand slams as the Bulldogs won 11-1 in five innings. Jordan Steele got the win on the mound. It’s the second time in as many years that Gulf Coast has swept LSU-E at Curly Farris Field.

The Bulldogs now turn their attention to the crucial MACJC South Division doubleheader finale Saturday against Hinds. Gulf Coast (11-11) is in a battle with Pearl River (12-12) for the last playoff spot in the division. Game times are at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. in Perkinston.
