MGCCC baseball sweeps Co-Lin

WESSON-Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College began MACJC South Division play with a convincing 7-1, 14-4 sweep at Co-Lin Tuesday. In the first game, Gulf Coast (11-5, 2-0) broke open a 1-1 tie with a seven-run ourburst in the top of the 8th inning. Jan Butler keyed the Bulldogs offense by going 3-for-4 with a homerun, triple, and three RBI'S. Jerrod Cannette also chipped in two hits and an RBI. Clint Dempster's seven innings of work on the mound yielded one run, two hits and 16 strikeouts.

The Bulldogs used the nightcap to throttle the Wolves 14-4 in six innings. Jeremy Hill smacked a 3-run homer in a 2-for-4, 4 RBI performance at the plate. Jan Butler continued his hot streak by going 2-for-2 with 3 RBI and a solo homerun. Matt Ross had three hits and drove in two while Matt Bennett slapped a two-run homer. Kenneth Atwood pitched and earned the victory.

Gulf Coast takes on Mineral Area C.C and Kishwaukee Thursday in a three-team event with game times at Noon, 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.
