MGCCC baseball sweeps East Central

DECATUR-Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College tuned up for Saturday’s MACJC South Division showdown with Hinds by sweeping East Central 10-5, 5-1 Wednesday on the road.
In game one, Gulf Coast (27-11, 13-5) got five strong innings from starting pitcher Drew Granier (7-2) as he struck out seven while giving up only one earned run. Jeremy Hill, Jerron Casey, and Matt Bennett each had two hits, while Jan Butler drilled a three-run homer, his fourth long ball of the season.
The Bulldogs took the nightcap 5-1 as Hill launched his team-leading 10th homer of the season and also got the win on the mound, striking out four in six innings of work. Casey and Corey Groue each had two hits in the victory.
The Bulldogs, two games behind first place Hinds in the MACJC South Division race, host the Eagles Saturday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. at Perk. Gulf Coast sophomores will be recognized before game one at Curly Farris Field.
