MGCCC Bulldog players earn post-season honors

Fourteen members of the 2009 Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College football team have been recognized for post-season honors by the MACJC and Region 23 of the NJCAA.

Gulf Coast running back Vick Ballard, offensive tackle Leroy Mitchell, wide receiver Kelvin Bolden, and kicker Bo Bryan all made the 2009 All-Region 23 Offensive squad, while Bulldog defensive end Wayne Dorsey was an All-Region 23 Defensive team honoree.

Ballard, Mitchell, Bolden, and Bryan were also named to the 2009 MACJC South All-State First Team Offense, while Dorsey was an MACJC South All-State First Team defensive selection. Ballard, sophomore running back from Pascagoula, was also named the MACJC Most Valuable back while Mitchell earned MACJC Most Valuable Offensive Lineman honors. Ballard gained 1,606 yards and ran for 22 touchdowns in 2009 while Mitchell, a sophomore from Brooklyn, Ms., helped anchor a Bulldog offensive line that averaged 315 yards per game rushing.

Bulldog wide receiver Brett Moncrief, offensive linemen Brandon Carlisle and Eric Hollis, quarterback Greg Jenkins, and punter Josh Nelson are MACJC All-State Second team offensive honorees. Gulf Coast linebackers Sammy Brown and Brannan Byrd and safeties Dameon Jackson and Bradley Jacobs made the MACJC All-State Second Team defensive squad.

Gulf Coast went 9-2 in 2009 and won its third straight MACJC South Division title.
