MGCCC’S Vick Ballard earns 1st Team NJCAA honors

Bolden, Bryan, Mitchell, Dorsey also recognized as All-Americans
Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College running back Vick Ballard is a 2009 NJCAA First-Team All-American while four other Bulldogs earned All-American recognition.
Ballard, a sophomore from Pascagoula, ran for 1,728 yards and 22 touchdowns in 2009. The Mississippi State commitment was also named to the 2009 MACJC South All-State First Team Offense and named the 2009 MACJC Most Valuable back.
Bulldog wide receiver Kelvin Bolden, offensive lineman Leroy Mitchell, and kicker Bo Bryan earned NJCAA Second-Team All-American honors. Bolden, a sophomore from Ocean Springs, gained 1,377 yards receiving and tallied 17 touchdowns. Mitchell, a sophomore from Brooklyn, Ms., helped anchor a Bulldog offensive line that averaged 315 yards per game rushing. Bryan, a sophomore from Saucier, made 13 field goals in 2009 and led in the NJCAA in scoring among kickers. Bolden, Mitchell, and Bryan also made the 2009 All-Region 23 Offensive squad.
On defense, Gulf Coast defensive end Wayne Dorsey is an NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American. Dorsey, a sophomore from Baltimore, Md., was a pre-season NJCAA Second Team All-American. He missed several games due to injuries but recorded five sacks in six games.
Gulf Coast went 9-3 in 2009 and won its third straight MACJC South Division title. The Bulldogs also finished 2009 #8 in the final NJCAA football poll.
