PERKINSTON — Tedrian Brisco and Bianca Buie have been named MGCCC Student Athletes of the Week for Jan. 22-28.
Brisco, a sophomore from Vicksburg, averaged 18.5 points and 8.0 assists in a pair of MGCCC games. In a 111-102 shootout loss to No. 9 Jones County, he had 19 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals and 1 block. In a 73-70 victory over archrival Pearl River, Brisco led Gulf Coast with 18 points and 8 rebounds. He was also a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line, and shot 61.9 percent from the field.
Buie, a freshman from Baia Mare, Romania, won two matches in the season opener at NAIA Loyola of New Orleans. She defeated Nadja Ocshner 6-4, 6-3 in No. 2 singles and teamed with Paulina Estrada to win 8-2 a No. 1 doubles showdown over Koral Martinez and Miranda Cano.
Keiara Williams, a freshman forward from New Orleans, averaged 13.0 points and 4.0 rebounds as MGCCC split last week. In a loss at Jones County, had had 16 points and 4 rebounds. Williams led the Lady Bulldogs in a 51-49 win over archrival Pearl River with 10 points and grabbed 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 2 steals and 1 block. She shot 57.1 percent from the field.
Travis Bell, a freshman from Jackson, won his No. 1 singles match in the season opener at NAIA Loyola of New Orleans. He defeated Steven Le 6-2, 6-4 and also teamed with John Murphy in No. 1 doubles, where they narrowly lost to Le and Ernesto de Diego 9-8.
