PERKINSTON — Katie Burrall and Reid Cudd have been named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week for April 3-9.
Burrall, a sophomore from Hernando, went 8-0 as the Lady Bulldogs tennis team won all four matches. Playing No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles, she helped No. 21 Gulf Coast defeat two other ranked teams.
Cudd, a freshman from Wiggins, went 7-1 for the Bulldogs tennis team playing No. 3 doubles and No. 5 singles. He won all four of his singles matches, and No. 14 Gulf Coast went 2-1 against other ranked teams.
Nora Keehn, a sophomore from Thibodaux, La., pitched in all four games for No. 5 Gulf Coast, going 3-1. She had a 0.98 ERA and struck out 15 and walked only 2 in 21.1 innings. Keehn won both her starts, a 4-1 win at Southwest and a 9-2 win at Northwest. In Game 2 against Southwest, she pitched four innings of one-run, two-hit ball in a 5-1 victory. Her only loss came in relief in a 5-4 loss at Northwest.
Izzy Werdann, a sophomore catcher/third baseman from Pensacola, batted .467 for the week and slugged home runs in both ends of a doubleheader at Northwest. She went 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBI in Game 1, and 3-for-4 with a homer, a double and 2 more RBI in the second.
Dylan Mills-Derouen, a sophomore pitcher from Biloxi, pitched a shutout for Gulf Coast in a 2-0 win against Mississippi Delta. She struck out nine in the seven-inning game, allowing six hits. He has both the Bulldogs shutouts.
Tyler Evans, a sophomore first baseman from D'Iberville, batted .471, with a home run and six RBI for Gulf Coast. He extended his hitting streak to 18 games and three multi-hit games. He went 3-for-6 with a home run and three RBI in an 11-8 Game 1 win at Hinds, then went 2-for-4 in the nightcap, a 4-3 loss. He had a double and an RBI in a 7-5 loss to Mississippi Delta, but drove in both runs with a double in a 2-0 win in the nightcap.
