PERKINSTON — Deandre Torrey and Casey LaFontaine have been named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week for Oct. 2-8.
Torrey, a freshman running back from Gautier, 32 times for 201 yards (6.3 yards per rush) and scored twice for No. 20 Gulf Coast in a 52-20 win over Mississippi Delta. Torrey has run for more than 100 yards in all but one game and leads the nation with 832 rushing yards. His nine touchdowns are tied for fifth.
LaFontaine, a sophomore from Pass Christian, had a goal for Mississippi Gulf Coast as the Lady Bulldogs went 0-1-1 on the week.
Darius Townsend, a freshman from Laurel, led No. 20 Mississippi Gulf Coast with 6 tackles and added 2 assists in a 52-20 win over Mississippi Delta. He was also a ball hawk with a forced fumble and a recovered fumble.
C.J. Smith, a freshman from Brampton, Ontario, had two goals for Mississippi Gulf Coast as the Bulldogs went 2-0. Smith scored his goals in a 4-0 win over Jones County and has 4 goals and 4 assists this season.
