PERKINSTON — Mya Hopson and LaRaymond Spivery have been named MGCCC Player of the Week for Feb. 19-25.
Hopson, a freshman from Madison, had a home run and a double for Gulf Coast in a pair of losses.
Spivery, a freshman guard from George County, missed double-doubles in two games by one assist in each while averaging 24.0 points. In a 90-73 loss to Pearl River, had had 21 points, 9 assists, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and a block. On the road in a 100-94 win at Southwest, he had 27 points while shooting 8-of-10 from the field, with 9 assists, 4 rebounds and a steal.
Brandon Parker, a freshman from West Harrison, slugged three home runs and drove in nine runs as Gulf Coast went 3-1. Parker had hits in all four games and homered in the first three. He went 2-for-3 in 13-0 and 8-4 wins at Nunez, and 2-for-3 again in a 10-6 loss to No. 5 Dyersburg State (Division I). He went 1-for-2 in an 8-7 win. Parker is tied with teammate Dylan Menhennett for the national lead in home runs, and he's second with 18 RBI.
Bailey Hargrave, a freshman from Madison, picked up a win in 4.1 innings of relief work in two Bulldogs victories. In an 8-4 win over Nunez, he pitched 2.1 innings allowing one hit while striking out three. He retired all six batters he faced in the Bulldogs' come-from-behind 8-7 win over No. 5 Dyersburg State, striking out two.
