Williams, Davis named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week

PERKINSTON — Katie Beth Williams and Alden Davis have been named MGCCC Student-Athletes of the Week for March 18-24.


Williams, a sophomore outfielder from Smithville, batted .538 with two doubles and four RBIs in a 3-1 week for No. 8 Gulf Coast. She had hits in all four games, including two hits with a double in an 8-0 win over No. 13 Copiah-Lincoln and a double in a 5-2 loss to Co-Lin. Williams went 3-for-4 in an 11-5 win at Holmes, and had another hit in a 5-1 win there.


Davis, a sophomore third baseman from Pascagoula, had two home runs in a 3-1 week for Mississippi Gulf Coast and hit safely in all four games. He homered and had three RBI in a 9-5 win at East Central and had a home run in an 8-7 loss to Holmes.

Jon Hopkins, a freshman golfer from Bishop's Stortford, England, finished second at the fourth MACJC event. He shot 3-under to help lead No. 2 Gulf Coast to its fourth consecutive conference victory.


Margarita Lopareva, a sophomore tennis player from Moscow, Russia, won all six of her matches for the Lady Bulldogs.


Kristen Cade, a freshman right-hander from Harrison Central, struck out 22 batters in 16.1 innings during three starts and a relief appearance for Gulf Coast where she went 2-0. She threw a five-inning one-hitter and struck out nine in an 8-0 win over Copiah-Lincoln, then struck out two more in one inning of relief in the second game a 5-2 loss. She threw 3.1 innings, striking out four, while starting an 11-5 win at Holmes, then started and struck out seven in a four-hitter to win 5-1 in the second game.


Tyler Hoffman, a freshman from Mobile, Ala., threw a four-hitter in a 12-2 six-inning win over Holmes. Hoffman struck out six and walked just one.
