MGCCC golf team wins MACJC State Tournament

The 2010 MGCCC Golf Team

The Mississippi Gulf Coast Golf Team fired rounds of 289-298--587 Monday and Tuesday to win the MACJC State Championship by two shots over Northeast. Copiah Lincoln finished 3rd at 596, followed by Northwest 616, East Central and Itawamba 618, East MS 620, Hinds 624, Jones 632, Holmes 651, and Pearl River 658. Gulf Coast, Northeast, Copiah Lincoln and Northwest, along with host Hinds, qualified for the NJCAA Region 23 Championship scheduled for April 25-26 at Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Raymond, MS.

Northeast's Blake Hatfield took Medalist honors with rounds of 68-73--141, followed by Itawamba's Alex Rowland 142 and MGCCC's Skyler Dennis 146. Grant Goforth (NW), Jackson Bryant (East MS), Trent Travis (ECCC), Luke Brown (ECCC) and Richard Howell (NW) qualified for Region 23 as individuals. Skyler Dennis 146 led Gulf Coast, followed by Brandon Herrington 147, Colin McNamara 148, Richie Williams 149 and Nic Ishee 154.

Alex Rowland of Itawamba won the Hubert Tucker Award for the lowest average of the season. He joins Michael Lauseng (East MS), Derin Petite (Co-Lin), Daniel Singh (NE)and Richie Williams (MGCCC) on the 1st Team All-State for the year. Gulf Coast's Brandon Herrington, Colin McNamara, and Nic Ishee join Grant Goforth (NW) and Blake Hatfield (NE) on the 2nd Team All-State.
