MGCCC men throttle Jeff Davis C.C. 97-75 at Gulf Coast Classic

PERKINSTON, Ms.---On day ome of the annual Gulf Coast Classic, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College upped it's record to 7-1 with a 97-75 win over Jeff Davis C.C. (Ala.) Monday Night at the Weathers/Wentzell Center.
The Bulldogs trailed 38-36 at halftime but surged ahead in the second half to take control of the contest. Matthew Washington led the Bulldogs with 18 points while Willis Brownlee added 16. In the other men's matchup, Northwest downed Baton Rouge 64-54.
In women’s action, the Lady Bulldogs fell to 2-4 in a 70-56 loss to East Mississippi. The Lady Lions, the defending Region 23 Champions, jumped out to a quick 16-6 lead and stayed in front the rest of the way, including a 37-28 at halftime advantage. Kiara Johnson and Brooke Eccles each had 11 points for Gulf Coast while Kaci Burkhalter added 10.
In the opening game of day one, Baton Rouge C.C. defeated Pearl River 87-68. The schedule for Tuesday’s action is as follows:
