Sophomore guard earns Second-Team Honors
Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College sophomore point guard Justin Ray is an NJCAA Second-team All-American.
The 5-foot-8, 165 pound Gulfport native helped Gulf Coast go 19-11 in 2008-09, win the Region 23 title for the first time since 1993, and earn a trip to the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kan. Ray’s 24 points per game scoring average was seventh in the NJCAA. During the 2009 Region 23 Tournament, he scored 85 points in three games as the Bulldogs defeated archrival Pearl River, Itawamba, and Holmes to win the title.
There’s no doubt Justin was the catalyst for our team this season,” said Gulf Coast head coach Wendell Weathers. “He was our team leader on and off the court. When he played, it was like having another coach on the floor.”
