Perkette auditions to be held at Malone Hall

The Perkette Dance Team of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College will hold audition workshops on Friday, April 30, and Saturday, May 1, at the Perkinston Campus. Auditions will be held on Sunday, May 2, on campus in Malone Hall. Check-in will begin promptly at 5 p.m. on April 30. Members of the Perkette Dance Team must live in the dorm or within a 20-mile radius from the school during the fall and spring semesters.

Attendance is mandatory for all three dates. Auditions are closed to the public – no parents or other guests will be allowed in Malone Hall. No videotaping of material is permitted by those other than coaches and/or judges.

Throughout each day of the audition workshop and audition, applicants are required to wear a black sports bra with a plain white tank worn over the bra; black dance pants (no shorts or capris); and dance shoes. Performance makeup should be worn each day. Hair should be securely pulled back off the face. No jewelry, including watches or belly rings, is allowed. Only jazz and soft-soled shoes are allowed in the dance studio.

Suggested technical skills to prepare for tryouts (many of these skills, among other, must be demonstrated on the right and left sides) include pirouette turns (double/triple), fouette turns, grand jetes, including switch leaps and straddle jumps, toe touch (tilted), battement front and side and arabesque.

Applications are due at registration and should include a current photo, proof of insurance and a current student ID. Preregistration is highly recommended.
