MGCCC soccer takes Region 23 Crown

For the second time in the short but storied history of the program, the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College men’s soccer team has claimed both the MACJC and Region 23 titles.

On Oct. 31 against Meridian in the Region 23 title game, a second half goal by Taylor Thrash helped the Bulldogs claim a 1-0 win over Meridian 1-0.

Each week the men’s soccer team at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College reaches a new plateau. On Oct. 25, the Bulldogs beat Hinds 3-2 in double-overtime to win their second MACJC State Title since 1998 and remain unbeaten at 16-0-2.

MGCCC men’s soccer wins MACJC state title

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College soccer coach Barry Thrash wanted his team to finish 2009 better than they did 2008…when Gulf Coast lost to Hinds in the MACJC State title game.

Thanks to a goal by Jonathan Marin in the second overtime period, the Bulldogs finished strong and defeated Hinds 3-2 to earn the college’s second state crown since 1998. The Bulldogs are also unbeaten with a 16-0-2 record and are now headed to next weekend’s Region 23 Tournament at Pearl River Community College.
