RAYMOND, Ms.---Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College soccer coach Barry Thrash wanted his team to finish 2009 better than they did 2008…when Gulf Coast lost to Hinds in the MACJC State title game.

Thanks to a goal by Jonathan Marin in the second overtime period, the Bulldogs finished strong and defeated Hinds 3-2 to earn the college’s second state crown since 1998. The Bulldogs are also unbeaten with a 16-0-2 record and are now headed to next weekend’s Region 23 Tournament at Pearl River Community College.

“I can’t say enough about how well this team has performed this season,” Thrash said. “That was a championship performance by a group that never gave up.”

Gulf Coast fell behind twice to Hinds but goals by Angel Plascencia even up the game on both occasions.

The Lady Bulldogs dropped a 1-0 decision to archrival Pearl River in the women’s MACJC State title game. The 2008 MACJC State Champs finish their season at 14-5-1.
