PERKINSTON-Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College swept Itawamba Saturday in men’s and women’s MACJC soccer action at the college’s Perkinston Campus.
The Bulldogs defeated the Indians 2-1 with goals coming from Steve Lepre and Taylor Thrash. The night before Gulf Coast (1-0-1) and Wallace St. played to a 1-1 tie.
The Lady Bulldogs (1-0) overcame a 1-0 deficit and rallied to defeat Itawamba 2-1 in double overtime. Miriah Carpenter’s goal in the 66th minute of the second period tied the game at 1-1. Courtney Fairley found the back of the net in the seventh minute of the second overtime to give her team the win in its 2009 season opener.
Gulf Coast takes on Hinds Saturday, Sept. 5 at Perkinston with game times at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
