March 25, 2009

Members of MGCCC’S women’s soccer celebrate after a goal during the 2008 season.

This season Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College’s women’s soccer team excelled at a high level on the field as well as in the classroom. On the soccer field, the 2008 team went 14-2-1 and earned it’s first ever MACJC State title, and it was recently honored by the NJCAA as a fall Academic Team of the Year.

Inside the classroom, the team’s cumulative grade-point-average was 3.40…the highest in the nation among NJCAA women’s soccer teams.

The level of achievement these young ladies have reached is second to none,” said Ladd Taylor, Gulf Coast athletic director. “We are extremely proud of the way this team represents Gulf Coast on and off the field.”

The NJCAA recognizes those teams with cumulative grade-point-averages of 3.0 or higher.
