No. 9 Bulldogs go 4-0 against archrivals in 2010 regular season

PERKINSTON---Courtney Fairley's game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the 7th inning of game one gave Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College a 4-3 come-from-behind win over Pearl River Wedensday en route to a doubleheader sweep of the Lady Wildcats. Gulf Coast (30-8, 14-4) tok the nightcap 9-1 in five innings.

Fairley, who had two hits in both games against Pearl River, drove in Kayla Moran in the game one victory. Pitcher Linsey Dickerson scattered eight hits and surrendered one earned run as she improved to 14-3. Sarah Smaltz and Kayla Moran also had two hits in the win.

Pearl River jumped out a 3-0 lead but Gulf Coast Clawed back to get within a run at 3-2. In the bottom of the sixth, Smaltz belted a solo homer, her 5th of the season, to tie the game at 3-3 and set up the seventh inning heroics by Fairley.

In the game two win, pitcher Lauren Bates (11-2) gave up five hits and struck out three in five scoreless innings of work. Megan Colvin, Courtney Fairley, Kayla Moran, and Tiffany Fuller all had two hits in the victory.

Gulf Coast, ranked No. 7 in this week's NJCAA D-II Poll, travels to Co-Lin Saturday for a division doubleheader at Noon and 2 p.m.
