Lady Bulldogs on 11-game win streak

DECATUR---This is no April Fools...the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Lady Bulldogs can smack the softball. In a battle for first place in the MACJC South Division, No. 7 Gulf Coast (24-6, 8-2) hammered East Central 7-2 and 10-1 to assume control of first place. Both teams came into the twinbill with identical 6-2 division records. Gulf Coast had 23 hits and six home runs in the doubleheader sweep, with four round trippers coming in the opening victory. Two came off the bat off Lauren Bates while Sarah Smaltz and Mariah Partman also went deep. Julie Mercer and Tiffany Fuller both added two hits while Gulf Coast pitcher Linsey Dickerson (11-2) went the distance and struck out six.

The 10-1 nightcap was a six inning affair that featured two more homers from Smaltz and Megan Colvin, who totaled three hits and 4 RBI. Kayla Tomkins and Courtney Fairley each had three hits while Lauren Bates stepped into the pitcher's circle and collected her eighth win of the season against one loss.

Gulf Coast puts its 11-game winning streak on the line Apr. 7 with an MACJC South Division doubleheader at Jones.
