MGCCC softball sweeps archrival Pearl River

POPLARVILLE---No. 7 ranked Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College made the 30 mile journey to take on its archrival and promptly swept the Lady Wildcats 7-4 and 6-2 Wednesday. It's the first MACJC South Division series for the Lady Bulldogs (20-6, 4-2) since taking on Southwest back on Mar. 13.

Gulf Coast pitcher Linsey Dickerson got a complete game win featuring eight strikeouts to up her record to 8-2 on the season in the series opener. Megan Colvin paced the team's 11 hit attack with three hits while Sarah Smaltz and and Mandy Fuller each drove in three runs. Fuller and Courtney Fairley tallied two hits in game one.

Lauren Bates notched her seventh win against one loss in the nightcap as she struck out seven Lady Wildcats. Gulf Coast pounded out 11 more hits in game two with Courtney Fairley leading the way with three hits while Julie Mercer and Sarah Smaltz had tow hits apiece. Mercer also had 3 RBI in the victory.

Gulf Coast takes on 2009 MACJC State Champion Co-Lin Saturday at Perkinston with game times at Noon and 2 p.m.
