MGCCC softball splits at Hinds to open MACJC South Division play

RAYMOND---Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and Hinds finally got in their MACJC South Division opening doubleheader after two days of cancellations due to bad weather. The Lady Bulldogs, ranked No. 7 in the NJCAA Division II poll, took game one 7-2 but dropped the nightcap 5-4.
Lady Bulldog pitcher Linsey Dickerson upped her record to 6-1 in the first game as the freshman only gave up two hits while striking out four. Lauren Bates and Mariha Partman both homered for Gulf Coast while Julie Mercer, Sarah Smaltz, Mandy Fuller, Megan Colvin each had two hits.
In the game two loss, pitcher Bayleigh Babin dropped to 1-1 while Kayla Herbert had two hits including a homerun. Megan Colvin also homered while Cassie Slaton added two hits.
Gulf Coast (13-5, 1-1) hosts Southwest Saturday at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
