Gulf Coast faces Northwest Saturday in Semi-Finals

WESSON-Gulf Coast pitcher Brittany Fields struck out six while Megan Colvin smacked a home run and drove in three as the Lady Bulldogs (22-9) cruised by East Mississippi (22-23) 9-2 Friday Night in the first round of the MACJC State Tournament hosted by Co-Lin.

Gulf Coast, the 2007 MACJC State Champions, will take on Northwest Saturday at 2 p.m. The Lady Rangers, the No. 1 seed out of the North Division, defeated East Central 7-4 Friday.

Fields, a freshman from George County, upped her record to 12-3 while Colvin (.429 batting average) had two hits on the evening which included her third homerun this season. Cassie Slaton also added two hits in the victory.

The Gulf Coast/Northwest winner will advance to take on the Pearl River/Co-Lin winner at 4 p.m. for the state title.
