MGCCC softball stops LSU-E at Region 23 Tournament
April 30, 2009
CLINTON-No. 6 LSU-Eunice came into the 2009 Region 23 Tournament with six players on their roster that had hit 10 or more home runs this season.
However, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College got a terriffic outing from seldom-used pitcher Tiffany Fuller and a pair of two run homeruns from Cassie Slaton and Megan Colvin to beat the Lady Bengals 5-2 and advance in the six-team double elimination event.
Fuller (1-1) also helped her own cause with two hits at the plate, while Holly Lawrence and Sarah Samltz also added two hits. Earlier in the day, LSU-E defeated Itawamba, while Co-Lin squeaked by Pearl River 2-1.
Gulf Coast (24-10) will take on two-time MACJC State Champion and defending Region 23 title holder Co-Lin tomorrow at Noon. Last Saturday, the Lady Wolves defeated the Lady Buldogs 8-5 in the state championship game in Wesson.
