MGCCC splits MACJC South Division opener at Co-Lin

In a battle of the last two MACJC and Region 23 champions, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and Co-Lin split a fast pitch softball doubleheader Wednesday in Wesson, with Co-Lin winning game one 3-2 and Gulf Coast taking the night cap 3-2.

The Lady Bulldogs (4-4, 1-1) could only manage five hits in the opener against the defending MACJC State and Region 23 champions, with Kayla Moran leading the offense on a 2-for-3 outing. Brandi Westerfield suffered the loss despite her five strikeout effort.

Gulf Coast bounced back in game two behind the pitching of Brittany Fields, who struck out seven in the victory. Tiffany Fuller added two hits at the plate for Gulf Coast, the 2007 MACJC State and Region 23 Champions.

The Lady Bulldogs host Jones in another MACJC South Division contest Saturday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
