Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College needed to get back on the softball diamond after last weekend’s games at Dothan, Al. were rained out.

Northwest Florida State College made a road trip to Ross-Smith Field on the College’s Perkinston Campus and swept the Lady Bulldogs 2-0 and 11-0 Thursday.

Game one was a pitcher’s duel, as the Raiders scored the only two runs of the game in the top of the fifth inning.

NW Fla. Pitcher Samantha Shownwald got the complete game shutout win, giving up only three hits and striking out six. Lady Bulldog pitcher Brittany Fields was the tough luck loser, giving up only three hits.

Valerie McAllister suffered the loss in game two as the Raiders won 11-0. Megan Colvin had two hits at the plate for the Lady Bulldogs.

Gulf Coast (2-2) heads to Northeast Mississippi Community College for a two-day event Feb. 27-28.
