Softball sweeps East Central

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College extended its winning streak to five in a row with an 8-0, 17-3 sweep of East Central Thursday in Decatur.
In the opening game shutout, pitcher Brittany Fields got the win as she struck out five and only gave up three hits. The Lady Bulldogs nine hit attack was led by Megan Colvin’s 3for-3, 3 RBI performance. Holly Lawrence also had two hits and drove in a run.
Gulf Coast pitcher Brandie Westerfield shut down the Lady Warriors while striking out three. The Lady Bulldogs pounded out 19 hits, with Megan Colvin this time going 4-for-4 with a homerun and 4 RBI’S. Sarah Smaltz had three hits including a homer, while Tiffany Fuller also had three hits and drove in three. Cassie Slaton and Whitney Welford each had two hits.
Gulf Coast (8-4, 5-1) will host Hinds this Saturday with games at Noon and 12 p.m.
