MGCCC softball splits at Southwest
March 30, 2009
Pitcher Brittany Fields earned the win in game two at Southwest Mar. 29.
Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College pitcher Brittany Fields earned her sixth victory in seven decisions as the Lady Bulldogs rallied to win 6-4 and earn a split in a doubleheader at Southwest on Say in Summitt. At the plate, Sarah Smaltz had two home runs and four RBIs for the Lady Bulldogs (11-5, 8-2). Holly Lawrence also had three hits for Gulf Coast while Fields finished with 11 strikeouts.
In the first game, Brandie Westerfield (4-2) was the losing pitcher as Gulf Coast dropped a 4-3 decision. The loss snapped Gulf Coast’s seven game winning streak. Smaltz had two hits in the first game including a three run home run. Lindsey Keys also had two hits for Gulf Coast.
The Lady Bulldogs will play host to defending Region 23 champion Co-Lin Tuesday at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
