MGCCC softball sweeps Hinds

RAYMOND-Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College enjoyed a 6-2, 11-1 sweep of Hinds Wednesday to improve their record to 19-7 overall and 16-4 in the MACJC South Division.
The Lady Bulldogs took the doubleheader opener behind pitcher Brandi Westerfield’s eighth win of the season against three losses. Lindsey Keyes paced the Gulf Coast offense with three hits, while Megan Colvin and Holly Lawrence each had two.
In the nightcap, Brittany Fields got the win and upped her record to 9-2, while catcher Sarah Smaltz smacked two homeruns and drove in five. One was a solo shot, while the other was a grand slam, giving the freshman from Texas 10 homers this season. Tiffany Fuller and Cassie Slaton each had two hits and drove in a run.
Gulf Coast travels to Pearl River Saturday to take on the archrival Lady Wildcats. Game times are at Noon and 2 p.m.
