MGCCC softball sweeps Jones

ELLISVILLE-Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College made it a perfect 4-0 record in 2009 over Jones with an 8-1, 5-4 doubleheader sweep of the Lady Bobcats Saturday. The Lady Bulldogs also swept Jones at Perkinston back on Mar. 7.

Gulf Coast (14-6, 11-3) took game one 8-1 as pitcher Brandi Westerfield (6-2) struck out seven and gave up one run. Holly Lawrence had three hits, Tiffany Fuller added two, and Julie Mercer and Whitney Welford both drove in two runs.

In the nightcap, Brittany Fields got the win in the circle and upped her record to 7-2. Holly Lawrence picked up three more hits while Cassie Slaton added two with an RBI.

The Lady Bulldogs face archrival Pearl River Monday in Perkinston at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
