MGCCC softball swept by Pearl River

The Lady Bulldogs hope to finish strong this week heading into the MACJC State Tournament.
POPLARVILLE-Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College lost its chance to host next weekend's MACJC State Softball Tournament after being swept 4-0 and 11-3 Saturday by archrival Pearl River.
The Lady Bulldogs (19-9, 16-6) were shut out in game one as Brandi Westerfield (8-4) took the loss. Tiffany Fuller managed two hits at the plate for Gulf Coast. The Lady Wildcats won the nightcap 11-3 and defeated Gulf Coast pitcher Brittany Fields (10-3). The long bright spot for the Lady Bulldogs was a 3-for-3 outing by Sarah Smaltz which included a homerun, her 11th of the season.
Gulf Coast will host Southwest Monday to conclude the 2009 regular season. Game times are 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Ross-Smith Field in Perkinston.
