Gulf Coast drops two to Jones

HATTIESBURG – Mississippi Gulf Coast dropped to .500 in MACJC play after getting swept Tuesday by Jones County.

 

The Bulldogs (16-12, 6-6 MACJC) lost 9-1 and 13-3 to Jones (30-2, 13-1), which leads the MACJC. It was a home doubleheader at William Carey for Gulf Coast, which is building a new stadium at Ken "Curly" Farris Field.

 

Ian Goff had two of the Bulldogs' six hits in the first game, and Slater McCarty had a double. Irby Dossett (2-2) pitched six-plus strong innings, allowing three runs on eight hits.

 

Jones scored six times in the eighth to blow the game open.

 

Gulf Coast managed just five hits in the second game. Ethan Necaise (0-4) took the loss.

 

Michael Shubert, Tyler Evans and Aaron Nicholson each drove in a run.

 

The Bulldogs return to action Saturday when they travel to Mississippi Delta. The doubleheader starts at 1 p.m.
