PERKINSTON — Four different Bulldogs players hit home runs Friday as Mississippi Gulf Coast swept State Fair Community College in a season-opening doubleheader at Ken "Curly" Farris Field.
Alden Davis (Fr, Pascagoula/Pascagoula) and Brandon Parker (Fr, West Harrison/Saucier) had the big shots in a 14-7 Game 1 win, and Dylan Menhennett (So, Biloxi/Biloxi) and Fisher Ray (Fr, George County/Bruce) had round-trippers in a 12-0 win in the second game.
Dustan Dille (Fr, Brookwood/Tuscaloosa, Ala.), Kole Kittrell (Fr, Greene County/State Line) and Nicholas Hertz (Fr, St. Stanislaus/Long Beach) combined on a four-hit shutout. Ty Barnes (So, Petal/Petal) got the win in the opener.
The Roadrunners (0-2) took a 2-1 lead in the third inning of Game 1, but Parker's blast highlighted a five-run bottom of the frame to give the Bulldogs a lead they never relinquished.
The middle of the Gulf Coast lineup dominated the opener. Alden Davis (Fr, Pascagoula/Pascagoula) had a home run, a double and five RBI in the three-spot. Cleanup hitter Logan McGrew (So, Sumrall/Sumrall) had a double and drove in three, and Parker also drove in three.
McGrew finished the day with five hits after a three-hit performance in Game 2. Menhennett, Parker and Orrion Bailey (So, Hattiesburg/Hattiesburg) had two hits.
Gulf Coast returns to action Wednesday in a doubleheader at Baton Rouge. The Bulldogs next home game is Friday when Mineral Area visits Perkinston.
