Mississippi Gulf Coast will open the baseball postseason Thursday in Senatobia when the Bulldogs start a best-of-three series against Northwest.
Game 1 will start at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The second game is at 3 p.m. Friday, with a third game, if necessary, immediately following. The games will be streamed at http://nwccrangers.com/watch.
Gulf Coast (32-14, 16-10 MACJC) finished tied for sixth in the regular-season standings, with Itawamba winning a tiebreaker. Northwest (30-12, 20-8) is the fourth seed.
The Rangers swept the regular-season doubleheader in Senatobia. Gulf Coast fell behind in both games and mounted comebacks that either tied or closed the gap to one before losing twice by one run.
The winner of the series advances to the six-team NJCAA Region 23 Tournament, which will be played in Eunice, La., on May 16-21. Host LSU-Eunice will be the third seed in the double-elimination event.
Pearl River won the state championship after Meridian swept Jones County in a wild doubleheader Sunday. The Wildcats will be the top seed, with the other four spots determined by the best-of-three series between the next eight teams.
No. 2 JCJC will entertain No. 9 Hinds, while No. 3 Meridian will play No. 8 Northeast. No. 6 Itawamba will travel to No. 5 East Central in the other series.
