PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast opens the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament on Wednesday against archrival Pearl River.
The schools, separated by 26 miles, will play about 200 west in Eunice, Louisiana. The Bulldogs (34-14) are the fifth seed, while the Wildcats (37-9) are the two seed. They'll play at 3 p.m. in the second game of the opening day.
No. 3 Meridian (36-11) plays No. 4 Itawamba (32-15) in the opener at noon. The host Bengals (50-5) play No. 6 Hinds (28-19) at 6 p.m.
It's a six-team, double-elimination tournament, which is scheduled to end by Sunday.

Schedule may change after games 6 and 9 depending on number of one-loss teams.
Winner advances to the 2018 NJCAA Division II World Series as the South District representative.
