Cheer team grabs awards

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast's Cheer team delivered at last weekend's UCA College Spirit Camp in Tuscaloosa, Ala., bringing home a passel of awards.

The Bulldogs won second place for their fight song and sideline performances, and they claimed third for their gameday routine. Mac, the mascot, won most improved mascot.

"It's going to be a great year," Gulf Coast coach Karlee Nobles said. "We've got 14 freshmen and four sophomores on the team. Our choreographers from Cheer Force One came up to camp to mingle with the team, and they have great chemistry. The next two years will be great."

The team will continue preparations for the upcoming athletic seasons plus a third trip to the UCA College Cheerleading National Championship in Orlando, Fla., in January.
