PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast returns to the Weathers/Wentzell Center on Wednesday for its last game of 2017 looking to make it into the Christmas break at 8-1.
The Bulldogs entertain Delgado (2-6) in a game scheduled to tip off at 7:30 p.m.
Gulf Coast coach Wendell Weathers likes what he's seeing from his team so far.
"The right guys are starting to embrace their defense," he said. "They're starting to embrace that their rebounds dominance is there. If we can just keep working on our offense and quit turning it over, we've got a chance to be pretty good."
The Bulldogs are coming off an MACJC South-opening win at Hinds on Monday. They face a Dolphins team they defeated 85-72 last week in New Orleans.
Gulf Coast is a taller team than last year, which is where the work on defense and board is shining through. It's a club that isn't brimming with experience, though, which means improvement hasn't always been as fast as Weathers would like.
"It's a progression," he said. "It's been a little bit slower than I would like, but we're starting four freshmen. And we're bringing some first-year guys off the bench. When you keep that in mind, and it's hard for me to do it because I want them to do it now, with freshmen, it's not going to happen that quick."
