MGCCC ranked 2nd in pair of national polls

PERKINSTON — Mississippi Gulf Coast is ranked second in Bushnell Golfweek NJCAA Division II Coaches Poll and in Golfstat's Relative Ranking system this week.

The Bulldogs, last year's NJCAA runners-up, had been No. 1 in the Bushnell Golfweek poll since the preseason. They were bumped by South Mountain, with each school receiving two first-place votes.

Murray State got the other top vote and is third. Tyler is fourth, followed Meridian, another MACJC school.

East Central is the third MACJC team in the poll at No. 10.

In the Golfstat rankings, Gulf Coast was first last week for the first time, but are No. 2 in the list released Wednesday. The Bulldogs' Jackson Wedgeworth (So., West Jones/Soso) is 10th in the individual rankings and Brice Wilkinson (Fr. Madison Central/Madison) is 13th.

Gulf Coast has concluded its fall schedule. The team returns to action Feb. 17-18 at the Coastal Alabama Invitational in Foley, Ala.
