No. 2 Mississippi Gulf Coast plays its only regular-season MACJC event of the spring Monday and Tuesday, heading to Northwood Country Club in Meridian.
Eight teams will take part in the 36-hole tournament. The Bulldogs won two of the three MACJC events in the fall, with Meridian winning the other.
"Meridian's tough and then you go to their hometown, their home course, and it makes it even tougher," Gulf Coast coach Tommy Snell said. "We're playing real well right now. We've got some guys battling in the bottom part of the lineup. The freshmen are starting to play well. I'm looking forward to the battle."
Gulf Coast is second in Golfstat's rankings and the Bushnell Golfweek NJCAA Division II Coaches Poll.
Meridian is fourth in the Golfstat rankings and fifth in the Bushnell Golfweek poll. It has Isaiah Jackson, the country's top-ranked golfer according to Golfstat.
They'll try to take advantage of practice time ahead of the tournament to be prepared.
"It's a short course but very tricky," Snell said. "That makes homefield advantage even more of an issue. We'll be prepared. We'll go up there Sunday and work hard on what lines we're going to take off the tee depending on the weather and the wind."
