All five Mississippi Gulf Coast finished under par and the No. 2 Bulldogs seized control of the second MACJC of the season, leading by 20 shots at Ackia Golf Club in Amory.
"We did alright today," Gulf Coast coach Tommy Snell said. "It could have been a little better. We made a couple doubles we shouldn't have. The guys hung in there and never got too excited when they made a bogey."
Gulf Coast's Brice Wilkinson (So., Madison Central/Madison) is tied for the lead at 4-under with Meridian's Will Kidder. Jon Hopkins (Fr., Hockerill Anglo-European College/Bishops Stortford, England) is third a shot back, and Jake Crosson (Fr., New Hope/Columbus) is another stroke back in fourth.
Wilkinson made five birdies on his second nine, and the Bulldogs were 9-under on Nos. 1-9 after teeing off on 10. Crosson had four birdies, and Hopkins and Woolard had eagles.
Tournament host Itawamba is in second place, five shots ahead of Meridian. Copiah-Lincoln is another two shots back and Hinds is in fifth at 20-over heading into Tuesday's final round.
"We're going to do the same thing we did today," Snell said. "Our goal is to keep sizing up the golf course preparing for district next April. We're still seeing which holes we need to attack, and which holes we need to show a little caution. Tomorrow it will be more of the same, trying to play smart."
