No. 7 Lady Bulldogs fall to No. 1 JCJC

ELLISVILLE – Mississippi Gulf Coast's Izzy Werdann homered for the second straight at-bat, but it wasn't enough Saturday afternoon for the No. 7 Lady Bulldogs.


Gulf Coast lost 10-2 to No. 1 Jones County in six innings to drop into the losers' bracket of the MACJC Tournament. The Bulldogs play the winner of the Itawamba-East Central game in an elimination game scheduled for Saturday at 5 p.m.


Werdann (So, Pensacola, Fla./Tate) led off the bottom of the second with a home run to tie the game at 1.


The Lady Bobcats had 13 hits, including a pair of home runs, against two Lady Bulldogs pitchers.


Kristen Sexton (Fr, Gulfport/West Harrison) had a pair of hits, and Lexie Mathis (So, Mobile, Ala./Baker) drove in the other run for the Lady Bulldogs.

Game 1: Gulf Coast 7, Itawamba 6

Game 2: Jones County 9, East Central 0, 5 innings


Game 3: Jones County 10, Gulf Coast 2, 6 innings

Game 4: Itawamba vs. East Central, 3 p.m.

Game 5: Gulf Coast vs. Game 4 winner, 5 p.m.


Game 6: Jones County vs. Game 5 winner, 1 p.m.

Game 7: If necessary, 30 minutes later
