Basketball heads toward busy Thanksgiving Week

PERKINSTON---Both Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College basketball teams are gearing up for next week’s Gulf Coast Classic as the first phase of the 2012-13 season continues.

The Bulldogs, the two-time defending MACJC Champions, upped their record to 5-1 with a 71-66 win at Baton Rouge Nov. 14 and a 73-46 victory over Spring Hill’s JV team a day later. Sophomore Angel Matias leads the team in scoring with 14.5 points per game while sophomore transfer JaMichael Hawkins is averaging 11 points per contest.

The Lady Bulldogs (3-2) fell at LSU-Eunice 85-61 Nov. 12 then lost a 64-57 decision at Baton Rouge two days later. Gulf Coast will host Holmes Nov. 19 then take on East Mississippi Nov. 20 in the Gulf Coast Classic.

The men play Baton Rouge Nov. 19 and Holmes Nov. 20 in their side of the Gulf Coast Classic. Here is a complete rundown of the two-day event:
