MGCCC football inks 25 on National Signing Day

PERKINSTON---As usual, the football coaches’ office at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College was a beehive of activity as 25 high school seniors signed with the Bulldogs on National Signing Day.
“Recruiting is the lifeblood of any football program,” said Gulf Coast head coach Steve Campbell, who’s entering his 10th season with the Bulldogs. “We’re very excited about the players we have coming on board. We filled many of the needs we had. We didn’t lose a lot of sophomores, but the ones we did lose were very good football players.”
Here are the names and short biographies of the 2013 football signee class:
Mississippi Gulf Coast 2013 Football Signees
Tevaris McCormick (WR/RB, Biloxi HS, 5’10, 170)
Helped lead Biloxi to District Championship in 2011; 2012 MS/AL All-Star Game participant; Offensive MVP junior and senior years; University of South Alabama signee; Rated the #33 Prospect in Mississippi by 24/7 Sports. Accounted for over 30 TD’s during his last two years in HS.
Tarvares Bingham (DE, 6’2, 230, Mobile (AL) Williamson HS)
Two-sport athlete in high school (football and basketball), won multiple Player of the Week honors while in high school. Named to the Mobile Press Register All Region Team. Had 20 sacks and 20 Tackles for Losses as a senior in high school.
Jeremy Cutrer (DB, 6’2, 170, Sumner (LA) HS)
LSU commitment; Semper Fi All-Star game participant in San Jose Ca.; First Team All- State; Four Star Rating by Rivals.com; Rated the #6 overall player in the state of Louisiana; #15 Safety prospect in the United States.
Martinas Rankin (OT, 6’4, 275, Mendenhall HS)
Led team to playoffs junior and senior years, named All-Region in 2011 and 2012; Honor Roll student.
Tristan Reynolds (K, 5’9, 145 Petal HS)
Helped lead team to undefeated record in Region play as a senior; Hattiesburg American All-Area First-Team; Named Class 6A Second Team All State; Top Rated kicker in MS 6A by MaxPreps.
Elijah Parker (LB, 6’2, 205, Brandon HS)
Led team to its first State Championship game in school history; named All-Metro, named Class 6A Second Team All-State and won multiple Player of the week awards. Member of the Beta Club and National Honor Society
Terrian Page (QB, 6’1, 205, Taylorsville)
Led his team to the third round of the state playoffs as senior, threw for over 1,500 yards and rushed for over 1,000 yards as a senior in high school. Accounted for 30 TD’s rushing and passing in 2012. As a junior, he threw for over 2,200 yards and had 28 TD passes against only 4 interceptions.
Tony Bridges (DB, 6’2, 175, Hattiesburg HS)
Four sport athlete that led Hattiesburg deep into the playoffs his senior year; named to the MS/AL All-Star Football Team; First Team All-State Football; Named Best Offensive Player in MAC All Star Basketball Game, three Star Rating by Scout.com & also rated the #100 best CB in the nation by scout.com.
Kevin Phillips (P, 6’1, 170, Pillow Academy)
Named First Team All-State and First Team All-Conference, set school record for longest punt, and owns the school record for best punting average along with being an honor Roll student.
Jamar Cole (WR, 6’6, 190, West Marion HS)
Led team to 13-1 record and District Championship as a QB his senior year; Named All- District and All-Area as a junior and senior; accounted for 23 TD’s as a senior; named to the Honor Roll as a student.
Gavin Callahan (OT, 6’4, 310, Florence HS)
2012 District MVP; Named First-Team All-District as a junior and senior; led team to a district championship in his Jr. season.
Raco Magee (LB, 5’11, 195, Seminary)
Led team to Regional championship as a junior and senior; named to Bernard Blackwell MS North/South All Star Team; Named Class 3A First Team All State.
Rod Williams (RB, 5’9, 175, Bassfield)
Helped Bassfield to a perfect 16-0 record and State Championship as a senior; Won three South State Championships in his final three years of high school; Named First Team All-State; Averaged over 11 yards per carry and rushed for 1,260 yards and 19 TD’s as a senior; also competes in Track and Powerlifting.
Desmond Taylor (DB, 5’11, 190, Picayune HS)
Played on Picayune’s 2011 undefeated State Championship team. Named to the All- District and Class 5A First Team All-State football teams. Played in the MS/AL All-Star Football Game. Rushed for 216 yards on 11 carries against Petal as a senior; averaged more than eight yards per carry during senior campaign.
Phalen Booker (DE, 6’0, 240, Bay HS)
Led team to third round of the playoffs for the first time in school history. Was Region 8- 4A MVP; Sea Coast Echo 2-time Defensive Player of the Year; named Captain of Bernard Blackwell North/South All Star Team. Had 16 sacks as a senior.
Cody Vaughn (OL, 6’3, 290, George County HS)
All Division and Second Team All State; Academic Honor Roll; Also a member of the GCHS Powerlifting Team; Named MaxPreps Preseason First Team All-State.
Alex Horn (OL, 6’3, 285, Ocean Springs HS)
All District honoree; named to the Bernard Blackwell Ms North/South All Star Team; Also was part of the track, powerlifting and wrestling Teams, and a member of the National Honor Society.
Tyler McCann (WR, 5’8, 170, Greene County HS)
Led team to the State Championship game as a senior; All-Division honoree; honor roll Student and was inducted into the Greene County HS Hall of Fame.
Kyle Reid (OL, 6’4, 340, Greene County HS)
Led his team to a South State Championship as a senior; named First Team All-State and All-Division & earned his team’s Most Valuable Offensive Linemen Award.
Easton Marshall (TE/FB, 6’3, 240, East Central HS)
Named All-District as senior; won his teams “Iron Man” Award; Named a Scholar Athlete while in high school.
Brandon Rich (DB, 6’1, 180, Pascagoula HS)
Led Pascagoula to the State Championship game as a senior; Was a team captain and First Team All-State selection; Had 6 interceptions during senior campaign; eanred the Advanced Algebra Award, also played basketball .
Ishmel Morrow (Athlete, 6’0, 175, Ocean Springs HS)
Named First Team All-State; Played in the Bernard Blackwell MS North/South All-Star Game. Caught a school record 18 passes for 239 yards against Picayune as a senior; led all coast prep players with over 1,100 receiving yards in 2012.
Ian Magandy (LB, 6’4, 210, St. Patrick HS)
Named WLOX Defensive Player of the Year; Napa Auto Parts/ Hokie Gajan Blue Collar Award; named Sun Herald Defensive Player of the Week twice; led the Coast with 158 tackles and had 7 forced fumbles as a senior; Named to the Sun Herald All-Coast Team for three straight years.
Justin Evans (DB, 6’0, 185, Stone HS)
Two-sport athlete in high school that averaged over 20 yards per reception on offense and had 30 tackles on defense.
Jon Wilson (DE, 6’6, 270, Salem HS)
Rated the #22 overall prospect in Mississippi by 24/7 Sports; USM commitment.
Meanwhile, Gulf Coast sophomore running back Anton Thornton signed with Delta State University. All other Bulldog sophomores signed with four-year colleges in the early signing period in December, 2012. The complete list includes:
