MGCCC softball goes 2-1 at Chipola Tournament

CHIPOLA, FL---Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College opened the 2013 softball season by winning two out of three games at the Florida Public Utilities Softball Classic hosted by Chipola Junior College.
The Lady Bulldogs opened the season with an 8-4 win over Lamar State on Feb. 8. After falling behind 2-0, Gulf Coast pounded out 13 hits including solo home runs from Lea Kittrell and Emily Davis and a two-run triple by Sharlaria Pickens. Starting pitcher Reina Baluja went the distance, walked six, and struck out four.
After a night game with Chipola was rained out, Gulf Coast got blanked by NJCAA D-I power Darton 7-0 Feb. 9 but came back to take down Snead State 7-2 to finish the weekend.
Gulf Coast travels to Baton Rouge for a doubleheader Thursday, Feb. 14.
