MGCCC baseball sweeps Spring Hill’s JV squad

MOBILE---Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College baseball got back in action Thursday with a 12-4, 9-3 sweep of Spring Hill’s Junior Varsity team.

In game one, the Bulldogs (3-1) used a17-hit attack led by leadoff batter Kyle Clement, who had three hits including a two-run double. Chris Burdette had two hits and three RBI while Marty Stringfellow, Jacob Swiney, and Blake Lawson each had two hits. Six Bulldog pitchers combined to hold Spring Hill to five hits and three earned runs.

In the 9-3 nightcap, the Bulldogs pounded out 14 more hits featuring a three hit outing by Tyler Quave. Clement, Burdette, Michael Gilbert, and J.C. Heflin each had two hits in the victory. Four Gulf Coast pitchers combined for 11 strikeouts despite giving up 11 walks.

Gulf Coast will host Bishop State Sunday in the team’s home opening doubleheader with games at 2 & 4 p.m.
