MGCCC’S Gilbert earns Player of the Week honors

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College infielder Michael Gilbert’s efforts on the baseball diamond have earned him NJCAA D-II and MACJC Player of the Week honors.

Gilbert, a sophomore from Harrison Central, went 6-11 with five RBI during a six-game stretch Feb. 17-24. He smacked two solo homeruns in a 6-5 win over Alabama Southern and also had two doubles and walked five times during those six games as Gulf Coast went 5-1.

This season Gilbert is batting .444 with 13 RBI and 11 runs scored while as a team, Gulf Coast is 10-2 and ranked No. 15 in the latest NJCAA D-II poll.
