MGCCC softball sweeps Meridian

MERIDIAN---Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College is riding a six-game winning streak after a 5-1, 9-7 sweep on the road at Meridian.

The Lady Bulldogs (8-3) took game one 5-1 highlighted by five stolen bases by Shalaria Pickens and three by Lea Kittrell, who also had two hits, as did Cocoa Bender. Emily Davis also ripped a two-run double in the victory. Pitcher Reina Baluja relieved starter Hallie Frenn in the first inning and went on to strike out eight and hold Meridian scoreless the rest of the way.

Gulf Coast took the nightcap 9-7 in eight innings as Baluja got the win again in the circle.

The Lady Bulldogs will host Faulkner State Monday, Mar. 4 in a make-up doubleheader with games at 2 & 4 p.m.
