MGCCC baseball blows past Spring Hill JV

MOBILE, AL---Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College dismantled Spring Hill’s Junior Varsity squad 10-0, 10-0 for the second sweep of the Badgers this season and extended their winning streak to seven.

The Bulldogs (12-2), ranked No. 15 in this week’s NJCAA D-II poll, pounded out 12 hits in the game one shutout with lead off batter Kyle Clement going 3-for-4 with 3 RBI. Ryne Long added two hits in the five-inning victory while four Bulldog pitchers including starter Cam Cochran combined to one-hit Spring Hill.

In the 10-0 nightcap, Chris Burdette went 3-for-4 with 4 RBI, Blake Lawson smacked a three run triple, and reigning MACJC and NJCAA D-II Player of the Week Michael Gilbert had two hits. Starting pitcher Taylor Olsen got the win, fanned 11, and only gave up one hit in five innings of work. Chris Wease pitched the last two innings, gave up one hit, and struck out five.

Gulf Coast will host Baton Rouge in a doubleheader Tuesday, Mar. 5 with game times at 3 & 5 p.m.
