MGCCC’S Sean Robinson helped the men’s tennis team go 4-0 last week.

It’s been a week full of serves and volleys for the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College tennis team as they took on Faulkner State, Northeast, Holmes, and Itawamba from Feb. 26 to Mar. 2.

The men’s squad (7-0) won all four team events and only lost one individual match. Against Faulkner State, Alex Puyol, Sean Robinson , Lachlan Puyol and Nick Georgian all won in singles and doubles while Grant Bell and Travis Burdick also took home singles victories. The Puyol brothers, Robinson, Georgian, and Burdick all paced the men’s team against Northeast, Holmes, and Itawamba.

The ladies squad (4-3) beat Holmes and Northeast but lost to Faulkner and Itawamba. Brittany Buker, Kit Chowdhary, Mary King and Marlee Triggs led the way against Northeast while Sarah Soares, Megan Fontenelle and Aliesha Barlow paced Gulf Coast against Holmes.

“I was really proud of the way we completed during this tough part of the schedule,” said Gulf Coast tennis coach Gary Bourgeois. “We played in very cold and windy conditions but stayed focused and played some outstanding tennis. Our men’s team is really setting the bar high and playing lights out tennis while our women’s team is improving each match.”

Gulf Coast embarks on another stretch of three matches in four days with a road trip to East Central Mar. 5 then home dates with Jones and Meridian Mar. 7 and Mar. 8.
